Making Literacy Fun!!

Introducing reading can be hard sometimes, but we're here to help! We understand the important of reading in the home but, we understand even more the importance of making reading something children enjoy! Here you will find a booklist to help jump-start your home library, ways to extend the book beyond just reading it together, and resources to help you feel confident about introducing literacy to your child.

Beginners Booklist

Where does one start with an at home library? What books should you pick when there are so many? Well, here are 5 of our favourite books to start reading with children! This booklist is geared towards children between the ages of 4-6, with each book having beautiful illustrations to help peak your child's interest.

Story Bags

What is a story bag, you may be asking? It is an amazing tool to be able to bring more to the story than just reading it and putting the book down. For example, with Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle (Martin & Carle, 2024), you can bring felt cut outs of the animals the brown bear sees in the story, allowing your child to interact with the story physically by finding the animal that the brown bear can see.
